New statistics show Twitter as the top social network site to interact with business.

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

What social networking site interacts best with all types of brands on the market? Twitter! The recent research done by Edison Research on the amount of people on Twitter that use it for following certain brands or a certain business may surprise you:

51% of Twitter users said they follow at least one brand on a social network.

42% of Twitter users said they use it to learn about products or services.

41% said they use it to provide opinions about them.

28% use Twitter to look for sales or discounts.

21% use it to purchase products or services.

19% use it to seek customer support.

Some of these stats seem a little more significant when you find out that only 16% of users of all social networks follow at least one brand on a social network.  35% difference, that is huge!

Twitter is well known, but still not as well known as it should be considering the impact that it could have on a business.   The statistics speak for themselves which leads me to believe that this problem is a failure on the behalf of Twitter to not promote these attributes since the public awareness for Facebook and Twitter are on par; Facebook has six times as many users!

All of this shows that Twitter is a great place to get your brand out there, people are looking for it.  Twitter is continuing to grow and continues to gain popularity which is why it is a great place to market and establish your brand or business.

LinkedIn Celebrates Their 7th Birthday

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Youtube are the most well known of the sites that people think about when they hear about social media.  A site that is not as well known but continuing to grow in population AND older then all of the sites mentioned above is LinkedIn.  Today is LinkedIn 7th birthday since they launched their website, which was a year ahead of MySpace, and more than 2 years before Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

LinkedIn is a business social networking site and since it has launched, LinkedIn has been the dominating business social networking site with no rivals in sight putting any pressure on them.  The growth speed of LinkedIn has only increased recently as it has surpassed 50 million users in the last year.   With the popularity of the site at a high, LinkedIn looks like they are not slowing down since they are adding new features including the ability to follow companies and new link-share features.

One question about LinkedIn now is do they intend to undergo an IPO anytime soon?  With the companies estimated worth at $1.3 billion or more, I am very interested to see what LinkedIn can do next in its very bright looking future.
